Solar Suitability
- How suitable is the climate in the country for solar electricity

Jun 30th 2015Ireland is suitable for Solar Electricity because of the climate we have with clean unpoluted air mass coming in from the Atlantic. Because of this and because we have a cooler climate we can out perform systems of the same size on a line from Paris to Berlin. As Solar power production tends to fall away in temperatures above 25Deg C we have the ideal temperature in which to produce Solar Electricity.

Financial Incentives
- Feed-in tariffs and other government financial incentives

Jun 30th 2015At present there are no feedin tariffs from any of the electrical utility companies operating in the Rep. of Ireland, but there is talk of the government bringing in feed in tariffs in 2016. For companies who pay corporation tax in Ireland, they can avail of the Accelerated Capital Allowance grant which allows them to write off 100% of their outlay on photo voltaic systems in the year of installation. See WWW.SEAI.IE and search for ACA grant.

Grid Connection
- Overview of the process to get a rooftop solar power system connected to the grid

Jun 30th 2015In order to get a P.V. System connected to the national grid you need to complete the ESB NC6 Form to register your system, then have your installer issue a completion cert that is sent to the relevant registered electrical regulatory body, ECSSA or RECI that is then passed on to the ESB who then issue an invoice for €320 to have an import/export meter installed at the site of the solar installation.Once the meter is installed the system is then up and running on the National grid.

Other Benefits
- Eg. Energy Performance Certificate benefits for homes in UK

Jun 30th 2015By installing a p.v. system you automatically increase the Building Energy Rating (BER) of the building on which the system is installed. On new builds you also comply with the latest building regulations.

Recommended Sites
- Useful non-commercial solar websites for homeowners and businesses that want to learn more

Jun 30th 2015For further information go to and search for micro generation information in the renewable energy section.

Planning Requirements
- Government regulations relating to installations of solar power systems on homes and commercial buildings

Jun 30th 2015Domestic single phase P.V. systems are limited to 6Kw. Domestic 3 phase, such as farms are limited to 11Kw in total, but at present there are no restrictions on commercial installations.
